Bespoke design

In case of creating your own design, the MFsurfaces team makes a sample according to the custom drawing. First of all we have to create a climb-mould according to the desired design. Normally the cost of manufacturing the mold is around one hundred euros ( plus VAT ), depending on the complexity of the image. When creating a custom design, you just have to take into account the following technical characteristics:

The drawing has to be ornamental

The thickness of the pattern lines must be a minimum of 3 mm

The shape and size of the slabs must correspond to the established measurements

Design by photo

If you cannot find a suitable model in our catalogue for the ideal combination for your environment, but you have seen a model or a drawing of the tile that you would like, it is not a reason for frustration. In most cases we can manufacture it. You just have to get in touch by mf@mfsurfaces.com or by calling +34 619 085 865.

Free sample!

We understand that when creating a special design, you have to try and compare. Therefore, after choosing the model, size and quantity of tile needed, we send a free sample. The customer is only responsible for the shipping costs.

Also, all you have to do is send us an email with a photo of the tile that you like the most to mf@mfsurfaces.com and we will manage it. If you make an order through the internet, filling in the form and leaving the data, we will contact you as soon as possible. We specify the drawing, colors, thickness, size and quantity of hydraulic tile, we send the sample or we invite you to visit us at one of our showrooms to see the manufactured slabs in person.

MFsurfaces offers you the possibility of different types of treatments and finishes for the chosen design:

Natural finish

Aged finish, silk touch

MFsurfaces, in addition to the artisan manufacture of the Hydraulic Mosaic, has been restoring old hydraulic tiles since 2004, once again achieving their original shades.

MFsurfaces has a tile installation service by our own manufacturers as well as a small instruction manual for its installation, protection and maintenance.

MFsurfaces offers different accessories specialized in hydraulic tile maintenance.

Manufacturing process

Our cement tile is made up of three different layers:

Imprint layer or fine imprint, which gives the visible face of the tile. A layer a few millimeters thick made up of white cement, fine sand or marble dust, and pigments. If the tile is not monocolor, this layer is divided into sections, one for each color, giving the final design or color

Intermediate layer, also of a few millimeters, of cement-rich mortar (1:1), which creates the union of the thin layer with the base of the tile after the hydration of the cement.

Back layer of the tile, based on a low-cement mortar (1:4) as a support that completes the slab

So strong has been the repercussion of hydraulic mosaic, that today numerous stoneware manufacturing companies try to imitate the authentic hydraulic tile, but without being able to achieve the resistance of the material or the beauty of natural colors which enhance the craftsmanship.

Joint Filler

Once dry and walking on boards, the slabs are grouted. Since it is a very fine space (1 mm or less) between the slabs, it is filled with fluid cement paste

The cement must be white. Do not use colored joint cement, since the color pigments would leave irreversible stains on the tile

Fill the space between the tiles with the help of a spatula, without extending above the tile. Wipe off excess grout immediately with a damp cloth

Cleaning and maintenance

Clean the entire surface with water, construction cleaner and brush or rotary machine to remove construction stains and dust. Do not use abrasive products (cement remover, solvents, etc.), as they can damage the pigments and the texture of the tile

Stubborn stains can be removed by rubbing a plastic Scotch Brite type abrasive

Daily cleaning is done with neutral soap

On intensively used floors (shops, bars, restaurants, etc.) they require specific treatment and care

Waterproofing products. They are applied with a brush or sponge. They penetrate into the slab, leaving no surface layer. Perfectly protects from water, gutters and other stains

Wax the floor. Usual and traditional treatment of the ancient mosaic. The wax protects and enhances the colors and leaves a satin floor
